Who is WelcomeNST welcoming to the U.S.?
Afghan allies with Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs), a U.S. designation that grants lawful permanent residence to those who have worked to support the U.S. government abroad and are facing ongoing threats.

Why Afghan SIVs?
They risked their lives to help the U.S. and are now in danger as a result. Welcoming them to the U.S. honors our commitment.

Why now?
Thousands of SIV families are in immediate danger as conditions worsen. Most can come to the U.S. only after they have someone to ready welcome them.
Does the administration’s recent decision to review refugee cases impact Afghan SIVs.
No. The administration is reviewing all cases of refugees that arrived between January 20, 2021 and February 20, 2025. SIVs are not classified as refugees, and these families are arriving post February 20, 2025.

How does the recent Trump administration's visa suspension for Afghan nationals affect WelcomeNST’s work?
The State Department has temporarily suspended visa issuance for all individuals traveling on Afghan passports. This affects the NEW Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) approvals; however, those with current, valid visas continue to come to the US to flee dangerous situations for their families. These are the families that we are diligently working to place with Neighborhood Support Teams.
